Outdooring ("sharing from birth”) was set up to give novelists the chance to test their new works in public prior to their publication, and to allow the public to interact more intimately with writers and get a feel for new trends in literature before they become "mass market". The format of the event is 20-25 minutes of reading by each novelist followed by 10-15 minutes of questions from the audience. There is a 15 minute break halfway through the event.

Outdooring is run by London Slam Central - a London-based literary events group founded in 2001 by Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Marrianne San Miguel and Agnes Meadows. The event was conceived in 2003 and was tested at oh! art in Bethnal Green in 2004 to a rapturous reception. Thanks to funding received from the Arts Council in 2005, we are finally able to launch the first of what we hope will be many seasons of the event.

oh! art (Oxford House)

Oxford House was the first 'settlement' from Oxford University, established in 1884. The inspiration for the founding of Oxford House came from Keble College - Oxford University. Oxford House was built to be a home to graduates, tutors and those intending to enter the church so that they might learn at first hand the problems of the city poor.
